Shiatsu, Japanese "finger pressure" therapy, is a natural healing discipline springing from the same ancient Oriental principles as acupuncture. Like acupuncture, Shiatsu works by stimulating the body' s vital energy flow known as "Ki" in Japanese, or “Chi” in chinese, in order to promote good health. However, in Shiatsu the practitioner uses thumbs, fingers, elbows and even knees and feet to apply pressure and stretching to the energy lines, known as "meridians".
Physically this has an effect of stimulating the circulation and also supporting the internal system. In addition Shiatsu strengthens the nervous system and helps release toxins and deep-seated tension.
On a more suitable level Shiatsu allows the receiver to relax deeply and get in touch wih his/her own body' s healing abilities. Tratment usually leaves a feeling of calmness andwell-being.
